More than the classrooms, workshops and equipment, Merryhue Farm is a place where a person can find space, quietness, acceptance and renewal.
Work Skills South West is situated on a one hundred and twenty-four-acre care farm. Merryhue Farm has been farmed in an environmentally sensitive way for over sixty years and as such boasts a hugely diverse range of habitats which include semi-ancient woodlands, meadow lands, heathland, willow carr and marshland.
As a result of having such a rich diversity of habitat, Merryhue has a wide range of wildlife such as otters, fallow, red and sika deer, kingfishers, barn owls and badgers, all of whom have found sanctuary on the farm.
Merryhue is a working care farm with a wide variety of livestock and poultry including alpacas, pigs, ducks, geese, chickens and quail.
Work Skills South West has access to several dedicated workshops, including a fully equipped woodwork workshop and a construction workshop with classroom. These spaces can be used for craft projects and for elements of work experience.
Land based Skills Workshop
Work Skills South West have use of a wide range of practical tools used to carry out conservation and land management tasks as part of the work experience programme.
The polytunnel and vegetable garden allow clients to engage in practical horticulture whatever their physical and mental ability level.
Merryhue Farmhouse provides a dedicated teaching space with full access to laptops and tablets, which can be used for workshops in a variety of topics including IT safety, healthy living and CV writing.
